Exoplanets is a captivating solo piano album by composer Giovanni Rotondo, originally released under Romanus Records it is now available as a distributed release via Human Sweat Records. Featuring 12 expressive tracks and approximately 40 minutes of music, this neoclassical work draws from the mystery of the cosmos and the introspective nature of humanity.

Influenced by Ravel, Debussy, Hindemith, Satie, Philip Glass and Steve Reich, Rotondo weaves a deeply personal narrative through minimalism, impressionism, and postmodern classical forms. Each track is inspired by a real exoplanet, transforming astronomical phenomena into evocative piano storytelling.

Track-by-Track Journey

  • The Nigh (Proxima Centauri B) – Named after the closest known exoplanet to Earth, this track explores the paradox of familiarity and distance. Its quiet tension mirrors our yearning to understand a world that is so near, yet unreachable.
  • The Waterworld (Gliese 1214 B) – Gliese 1214 B is believed to be almost entirely covered in water. This track contemplates the emotional symbolism of an endless ocean—both nurturing and isolating—through flowing, reflective motifs.
  • The Humble (Kepler-37B) – Inspired by the smallest exoplanet ever discovered, this miniature prelude pays tribute to the elegance of minimalism. It reveals the beauty of what we often overlook in scale and presence.
  • The Genesis Planet (PSR B1620-26 B) – Orbiting a pulsar and a white dwarf, this planet is among the oldest in the known universe. The piece builds a timeless landscape, invoking age and mystery with ascending arpeggios and cyclical, almost ancient, harmonies.
  • The Young (V830 Tauri B) – Discovered orbiting a newborn star, this planet is a cosmic infant. The piece bursts with light and motion, capturing the spirit of beginnings through vibrant, optimistic harmonies and subtle rhythmic propulsion.
  • The Explorer (OGLE-2016-BLG-1928) – One of the smallest free-floating planets ever detected, this rogue world travels through space without a sun. The composition embodies movement without direction—searching, drifting, and daring.
  • Poltergeist (PSR B1257+12 B) – This was the first confirmed exoplanet, found orbiting a pulsar. Named after a mischievous ghost, its existence defied expectations. The music conjures the eeriness of survival in an unlikely system—dark, minimal, and unsettled.
  • Glass Rain (HD 189733 B) – Known for its high winds and hypothetical sideways rains of molten glass, this planet is volatile and violent. The track contrasts harshness with beauty, evoking a storm in motion and the quiet at its center.
  • Three Suns (KOI-5Ab) – KOI-5Ab orbits in a rare triple star system. This piece imagines its shifting shadows and overlapping orbits, using layered patterns and tonal light play to reflect gravitational complexity and rhythm.
  • The Incandescent (KELT-9 B) – One of the hottest exoplanets discovered, KELT-9 B challenges what we understand about habitability. The piece is a burst of speed and virtuosity—racing arpeggios that evoke light, fire, and fleeting clarity.
  • The Obscure (TrES-2B) – TrES-2B reflects less light than coal. The composition embraces its darkness and quiet, exploring emotional voids and the quiet resistance of something that absorbs everything, including sound and light.
  • The Giant (HD 100546 B) – A massive gas planet still in formation, surrounded by a disk of matter. This track begins with heavy, brooding motifs and transitions into lyrical arpeggios that suggest becoming, not just being.

Exoplanets invites you to experience space not through telescopes, but through tone, touch, and emotional resonance. Each track is a world, each note a star, each silence a breath of the infinite.

The vinyl edition offers more than just music—it’s a tactile, analog encounter with the cosmos. Perfect for collectors, neoclassical enthusiasts, and dreamers alike.
