Giovanni Rotondo

Italian composer Giovanni Rotondo brings his distinctive voice to the intersection of film music and artistic integrity from his base in London. Known for crafting subtly multilayered scores, his recent work has graced both BBC1 and Netflix productions. His latest venture, Human Sweat Records, emerged from his passionate belief that human creativity must remain vital in an age of algorithmic art - every note and visual element released through the label springs from human hands and hearts.

A Berklee College of Music graduate, Rotondo's journey took him from Boston to Los Angeles, where he cut his teeth on major productions including Spider-Man 3. His orchestration work soon caught the attention of filmmakers, leading to collaborations on the critically acclaimed Calvary. While serving as curator of film scoring at Italy's prestigious Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, he worked alongside Oscar winners Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani, Ludovic Bource, and Mychael Danna.

His scoring credits span continents and genres: from the poignant New Zealand drama Orphans & Kingdoms to RAI 1's prime-time features Il Giudice Meschino and Il Confine. His themes have elevated productions like Bologna 2 agosto, i giorni della collera and the Canadian feature Elijah and the Rock Creature. More recently, his music has found a home in Netflix's global hits Dark Desire and El Club, with Dark Desire ranking as Netflix's third most-watched show worldwide in 2020.

Rotondo's versatility shines through in projects like his animated scores for Great Ormond Street Hospital, featuring voice performances by Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Julie Walters. In 2021, he composed for the American feature Forebearance, and his music brought additional gravitas to BBC1's The Queen's Platinum Jubilee - A Service of Thanksgiving in 2022. Beyond composing, he shares his expertise through Film Scoring Tips, where he serves as editor-in-chief, fostering a collaborative spirit that defines his approach to both music and mentorship.
