ESTIMATED TO SHIP ON OCTOBER 14 2026
A nocturnal journey through the strange beauty of the universe, Ex Noctis brings the felted piano into conversation with black holes, distant stars, ancient galaxies and worlds beyond our own.
Written at the crossroads of minimalism, romanticism and New Objectivity, twelve pieces balance intimacy with cosmic scale. Repeated figures, luminous harmonies and carefully shaped melodies create music that feels familiar and otherworldly, moving from solemn grandeur to playful motion, deep stillness to sudden intensity.
Inspired by real astronomical phenomena, the album explores ultramassive black holes, Earendel, distant planetary systems, the dual nature of a comet, supervoids, ring galaxies and imagined memories of ancient stars.
The felted piano gives the music its distinctive nocturnal character, remaining intimate and human even when its subject is billions of light years away.
Ex Noctis is the first release on COSM, the new Human Sweat Records sublabel dedicated to the Chronicles of Space Music.
Ex Noctis is music for looking outward, listening inward, and spending a little time among the stars.
Tracklist
1. Ultramassive Black Hole
Ultramassive black holes are the largest black holes, containing billions of solar masses and exerting an extraordinary gravitational pull. The piece captures the awe and mystery surrounding these cosmic giants.
2. Earandel the Distant
Inspired by Earendel, a distant star discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope, the piece captures the faint, ancient light of this celestial body, something far away yet strangely familiar.
3. Exomoonlight Sonata
Exomoons are moons outside our Solar System. This homage to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata explores their mysterious existence in a piece fitting for a nocturnal listening session.
4. Dance of the Wasp System
WASP-148b and WASP-148c are two planets orbiting a Sun-like star about 800 light-years away in the constellation Hercules, engaged in a peculiar gravitational dance.
5. The Great Attractor
The Great Attractor is a gravitational anomaly in intergalactic space that acts as a central gravitational point of the Laniakea Supercluster, a vast and mysterious region of the cosmos.
6. Odd Radio Circles
Odd Radio Circles are large, unexplained astronomical objects with highly circular shapes and bright edges visible at radio wavelengths.
7. The Impossible Comet
Comet Elst–Pizarro is an unusual body displaying characteristics of both asteroids and comets, giving it an intriguing dual nature.
8. Methuselah’s Memories
HD 140283, known as the Methuselah star, is one of the oldest known stars in the universe. The piece explores the idea of the ancient memories this extraordinary star might hold.
9. Supervoids
Supervoids are enormous regions of space that are mostly empty of visible and dark matter. Our Milky Way lies at the edge of the Local Void.
10. Ice Volcanoes
Pluto’s ice volcanoes, or cryovolcanoes, spew material made of ice and water rather than molten rock, creating a striking contrast with volcanic activity on Earth.
11. Perfect Ring Galaxy
Ring galaxies form striking circular structures when viewed from a distance, with Hoag’s Object offering one of the best known examples of this remarkable symmetry.
12. Titan’s Canyons
Titan’s deep, steep-sided canyons are filled with liquid hydrocarbons rather than water, creating an extraordinary landscape unlike the rivers and canyons of Earth.
Product Information
Pressed on 180 gram vinyl, Ex Noctis is available in two carefully produced variants, both pressed by Clampdown Records. Each record is protected by a Black Poly Lined Inner Sleeve.
Borealis
The Borealis variant features black and green vinyl and is limited to 100 copies.
Moondust
The Moondust variant is pressed on clear vinyl with black, cyan and magenta accents and is limited to just 30 copies. Genuine lunar meteorite dust is pressed into the record itself.
The Moondust edition is a highly limited collectible object that can also be played. Genuine lunar meteorite material has been pressed into the record during manufacture.
Because of the unusual materials and manufacturing process, playback may not be identical to that of a conventional vinyl record. Minor surface noise or other sonic variation may occur. Customers who choose to play the record acknowledge that its playback characteristics may differ from those of a standard pressing.
As far as we are aware, this may be the first vinyl record to incorporate genuine lunar material in this way. The possibility makes this a truly extraordinary pressing.
Every copy includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Aerolite Meteorites, Inc., who supplied and certified the actual lunar material.
The Moondust edition is a “stupid fancy” pressing by Clampdown Records, a beautiful and highly limited object that takes the album’s cosmic concept one step further.
Limited to max 3 copies per household.
Both variants come in a beautiful full colour jacket featuring artwork by Josh White.
